Bio

Black gospel music is, perhaps, the most arresting music of the last half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. There is almost nowhere in the world it is not heard. From the symphony hall to Hollywood, from jazz festivals to rock concerts, the influence of black gospel music is ever present. This lecture recital addresses five centuries of cultural, religious and music history in a 60-minute presentation.  Original piano performances, arranged and performed by the author, support the discussion. Throughout the hour, time is equally divided between lecture and piano performance. As a baritone vocalist, music arranger, and producer, Dent is a member of TAKE 6, which has released eleven recordings for Warner Brothers Records. One of the group’s recordings has reached platinum status (one million units sold) and three others have garnered gold. With ten Grammy awards to their credit, the members of TAKE 6 hold the honor of being the most Grammy-nominated vocal group in history.
